Kingdom Investment Training

Thinking about doing some investing in the Kingdom of God. Good for you! What follows is 50 years of giving insights, learnings, and top tips in an outline of bullet points. Your process might be a little different, and that is ok. Remember that the journey is most important. We are here to know God and His character... The name of the great provider God in the Bible is Jehovah Jireh, which translates to "the Lord will provide" or "the Lord our provider". This name was first used by Abraham when God provided a ram as a sacrifice instead of his son Isaac (Genesis 22:13-14).

Decide to Give

  • By amount: The amount makes little difference; it's the heart of the individual (Luke 21:1-4). If you can only afford a dollar every week, start there. God focuses on the effort and the obedience.

  • By percentage: A big deal is made out of 10% from the Old Testament, but the actual percentage in The Law was 22%–30%. Sadly, the actual amount comes in at 1.7%. Don’t let pride sneak in about what you are giving—it’s all about Him.

  • Freewill offering (2 Corinthians 9:7): What the Spirit leads you to give—not reluctantly, not under compulsion. God loves a cheerful giver.

  • Things: stocks, bonds, property, cars (sometimes hard to get a legal tax deduction), donations, alms (money you don’t really keep track of, like Salvation Army buckets).

How to Give

  • Give in secret (Matthew 6:3). Consider your motives (1 Corinthians 4:5; 1 Samuel 16:7; Proverbs 16:2).

  • Follow the 10/10/80 rule: 10% giving, 10% long-term savings, live on the other 80%. If you can’t do this yet, make it a goal.

  • Pray for resources (Luke 10:2). Tell Him you will give if He provides. Remember: it’s God’s job to fill your bank account, and your job to write the check (Larry Burkett).

  • Pray for the recipients (Psalm 139:2). Don’t give cash to homeless people—be creative and offer dignity (snacks, gift cards, hygiene items, conversation; Matthew 10:42).

  • Pray for multiplication (John 6:13).

Make a List

  • Dream of who you could help and how much you could give.

  • Align what is important to God with what is important to you.

  • List who you believe the Spirit is leading you to consider, and discern the amounts to give.

  • Prioritize offerings so you can respond as resources become available.

Send Funds

  • Pay attention to timing. A check in the mail is discreet. Phone donations can be impulsive. In-person giving can be misinterpreted—use discernment.

  • Automated giving can build habits but can create entitlement. Reassess as needed.

Taxes

  • Checks are best for documentation, but the IRS requires a giving statement from the organization.

  • Always document everything.

Stewardship

  • Seek tax-deductible opportunities if possible—it’s good stewardship.

  • Use online charity tracking tools.

  • Sometimes, giving without a tax deduction can be the most freeing experience.

  • Do your best to be a faithful steward, but trust God—He is the ultimate provider.

Celebrate Victories and Worship

  • Worship the Great Provider and give Him the glory.

  • Save stories of His provision, share them when appropriate.

  • Remember His past provision when times are tough, and praise Him when times are good.

  • Encourage others with testimonies of His faithfulness.
